Every demo in Layerpath contains up to three content types: a Tour, a Guide, and a Video. When you record your screen, Layerpath automatically generates all three so you can pick the format that fits your audience and use case. You do not have to choose upfront — you can create and edit all three from the same recording.

The three content types

Tour

An interactive, click-through walkthrough. Viewers step through each screen at their own pace, guided by hotspots and tooltips.

Guide

A scrollable, document-style page that pairs annotated screenshots with written instructions.

Video

A polished video with zooms, cursor highlights, and optional AI voiceover.

Tour

A Tour presents your product as an interactive experience. Each screen in your recording becomes a step, with clickable hotspots and tooltips that draw attention to the right elements. Best for:
  • Product demos on landing pages or in sales outreach
  • Interactive onboarding flows embedded in your app
  • Feature announcements where you want users to explore hands-on
How steps work: Each click you made during recording becomes a step boundary. Layerpath places a hotspot on the element you clicked, so viewers follow the same path through the product.

Guide

A Guide turns your recording into a written how-to document. Each step gets a screenshot and a text description. The result looks like a support article or onboarding doc and can be shared as a link or embedded on a page. Best for:
  • Help center articles and documentation
  • Step-by-step setup instructions
  • Internal SOPs and training materials
How steps work: Like Tours, each click in your recording becomes a step. Each step has an annotated screenshot and a description that you can edit.

Video

A Video produces a continuous video file from your recording. Layerpath adds zoom effects on key clicks, smooth cursor movements, and optionally generates a voiceover using AI. Best for:
  • Social media and LinkedIn product demos
  • YouTube walkthroughs and explainer content
  • Sales follow-up emails and outreach
How clips work: The video is divided into clips — segments that correspond to sections of your recording. You can trim, reorder, and add effects to individual clips in the video editor.
The Video content type uses “clips” rather than “steps.” This is specific to the video editor — Tours and Guides use “steps.”

When in doubt, publish all three. Different audiences prefer different formats. A Tour works well on your pricing page, a Guide belongs in your knowledge base, and a Video is easy to share in a follow-up email.

Generated from one recording

All three content types come from the same recording. After you stop recording, Layerpath processes the video and creates a Tour, Guide, and Video automatically. You can then:
  1. Open each content type in its editor to refine it.
  2. Publish them individually or together.
  3. Combine them in a playlist so viewers can choose their preferred format.
You never have to record more than once to get all three formats.
