The Layerpath Chrome extension is how you capture your product. It records your screen, tracks your clicks and interactions, and sends the recording to Layerpath so you can turn it into a demo.

Install the extension

1

Open the Chrome Web Store

Click Install extension in the Layerpath onboarding flow, or visit the Chrome Web Store directly and search for Layerpath.
2

Add to Chrome

On the extension page, click Add to Chrome. A confirmation dialog appears — click Add extension to confirm.
3

Pin the extension

Click the puzzle piece icon in the Chrome toolbar, find Layerpath, and click the pin icon. The Layerpath icon will appear in your toolbar for quick access.
Pinning the extension makes it easy to start and stop recordings without hunting through the extensions menu.
The Layerpath extension requires Google Chrome. It is not available for other browsers.

What the extension captures

When you record with the Layerpath extension, it captures:
  • Screen content — everything visible in the selected tab or window.
  • Mouse clicks — used to identify step boundaries and generate interactive hotspots in Tours.
  • Cursor movement — used to produce smooth pointer animations in Videos.
The extension does not capture audio from your microphone during recording. You can add AI voiceover after the recording is processed.

Start a recording

1

Navigate to the page you want to record

Open the tab or window that shows the product flow you want to demo.
2

Click the Layerpath extension icon

The recording panel opens. Choose whether to record the current tab or your entire screen.
3

Click Start recording

Layerpath begins capturing. Walk through the product flow at a natural pace — click, scroll, and interact as you normally would.
4

Stop recording

When you’re done, click the Layerpath icon again and select Stop recording. You can also click the stop button in the floating toolbar that appears during recording.

After you stop recording

Once you stop, the extension uploads your recording to Layerpath automatically. You are redirected to the new demo screen, where Layerpath processes your recording and generates a Tour, Guide, and Video. Processing typically takes a few seconds to a couple of minutes depending on the length of the recording.
If you close the browser tab during upload, your recording is still saved. You can find it in your dashboard under My demos once processing is complete.

Troubleshooting

Click the puzzle piece icon in Chrome to open the extensions panel. Find Layerpath and click the pin icon to add it to your toolbar.
Make sure the extension is installed and enabled. Go to chrome://extensions, find Layerpath, and confirm the toggle is on. If the issue persists, try removing and reinstalling the extension.
Check your internet connection. The recording uploads automatically after you stop — if the upload was interrupted, try restarting Chrome and recording again. Recordings that fail to upload do not appear in the dashboard.
