A Guide is scrollable, document-style content that walks readers through a process using annotated screenshots and written descriptions. Unlike a Tour, a Guide is read at the viewer’s own pace — there are no hotspots to click. Each step contains a screenshot (or short video clip), a title, and a description. Guides can be shared as a link or exported as a PDF.

Create a Guide

1

Open the new demo screen

From your dashboard, click New demo.
2

Choose your starting point

Click Record your screen. Install the Layerpath Chrome extension if prompted. After recording, Layerpath processes your session and creates a Guide with one step per captured click.
3

Enter the Guide editor

After processing, Layerpath opens the Guide editor where you can review and refine each step.
Only Admins and Editors can create Guides.

Guide editor overview

The Guide editor displays your steps as a continuous vertical scroll, similar to a web article. Each step appears as a card containing the screenshot, step number, title, and description. At the top of the editor you’ll find the Guide title and description. Below that, steps are listed in order. You can scroll down to review all steps in sequence.

Working with steps

Adding a step

Click the Add step button at any position in the steps list. A new blank step is inserted at that position, ready for you to add content.

Editing a step

Click on a step card to select it. You can then:
  • Edit the title — click the title field and type a new title.
  • Edit the description — click the description field to write or paste a longer explanation of what the step shows.
  • Replace the screenshot — click the image area to upload a replacement screenshot.

Reordering steps

Drag a step card up or down to change its position in the sequence.

Deleting a step

Select the step and click the delete option in the step menu.

Sections

You can organize steps into named sections. A section acts as a chapter heading — a labeled divider that appears between steps to group related actions together. To add a section, use the section controls in the steps panel.

Annotations

Annotations are markers drawn on top of a screenshot to highlight a specific area. Add an annotation to a step by entering the step’s edit mode and using the annotation toolbar. You can reposition, resize, and restyle annotations directly on the canvas.
Combine a clear description with an annotation pointing to the relevant UI element — this gives readers the context they need without having to hunt for what changed between steps.

Exporting as PDF

You can export the complete Guide as a PDF document. Each step is laid out with its screenshot, title, and description formatted for print. To export:
1

Open the export menu

In the Guide editor top bar, open the Export menu.
2

Select PDF

Choose Export as PDF. Layerpath generates the PDF using your Workspace’s Brandkit — the logo from your Brandkit appears on the cover page. If your plan includes a watermark, it appears on each page.
3

Download the file

When generation is complete, the PDF downloads automatically.
Video steps are included in the PDF as a static thumbnail with a note that the video must be viewed from the source link.
To share the Guide with others:
1

Publish the Guide

Click Publish in the top bar. The Guide status changes to Published.
2

Copy the share link

Open the Share panel and copy the public link. Anyone with the link can view the Guide in their browser without signing in.
Unpublishing a Guide immediately removes access for anyone using the share link.
